Meet Marcie

I am a certified music therapist, songwriter, and classically trained vocalist, but my journey began long before my formal training. As the daughter of Puerto Rican immigrants raised in upstate New York, I am proud to be the first in my family born on the U.S. mainland to pursue higher education and build my own practice. I founded True Sound Music Therapy to bridge the gap between clinical expertise and cultural resonance, creating a space where every voice—and every story—is truly heard.

HEALING FROM THE INSIDE OUT

My own personal healing journey includes working through generational trauma and significant performance anxiety. Early in my performance career I suffered such daunting anxiety that I needed to step back from the stage all together for a few years. Healing modalities that have made the biggest impact in my life include psychodynamic therapy, meditation practices, IFS (Internal Family Systems), journaling and connecting with nature. Writing and sharing my original music also provides me with valuable opportunities to heal and connect with others. Engaging in regular movement is another important part of my wellness, and I’m a certified Blaze Fitness Instructor. As a fitness instructor, I teach strength-training and HIIT (high-intensity interval training) classes.

About My Work

I’ve been supporting those struggling with trauma and anxiety for over 10 years. I’ve provided music therapy services in private homes, hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, residential programs, schools, mental health facilities, and rehabilitation centers for individuals of varying ages and abilities.

In addition to my clinical practice, I also offer retreats and workshops for self-care and wellness.  In 2023, I co-facilitated the first Resonance Retreat, a music-based wellness retreat set in the beautiful woods of Vermont. Some of the organizations that I’ve worked with or presented for include: University of Vermont, Love Your Brain, Arete Transitions, Survivorship NOW, Center for Trauma Recovery, Vermont Folklife Center, River Rock Treatment Center, and Jenna’s Promise.

At the heart of my practice is a simple belief: healing has a ripple effect. My work is dedicated to understanding your unique needs and helping you thrive, because I believe that when one person finds their peace, the whole world becomes a little brighter.

I received my BM in Music Therapy from Queens University of Charlotte. I also have a BA in Communication from SUNY Geneseo. I completed my clinical internship at MJHS Hospice & Palliative Care in Brooklyn, NY, providing music therapy within end-of-life care.

In 2015, I completed an advanced training in Neurologic Music Therapy with Michael Thaut (Rhythm, Music & the Brain).

I’m also an active songwriter; upon its release, my debut album, Amanecer was recognized as a “stunning debut by a seriously promising artist…” (Seven Days). The album encapsulates a genre-bending sound rooted in my unique bi-cultural upbringing. I’ve had the opportunity to perform for a wide variety of venues and festivals including Grand Point North, Waking Windows, Burlington Jazz Fest, Highlight NYE and Higher Ground.

I’ve found that my personal creativity and my work as a therapist are two sides of the same coin. Nurturing my own creative voice allows me to show up more fully for my clients, bringing a sense of freshness and imagination to every session.

“Marcie is wonderful at incorporating goals into sessions.  She always addresses my daughter in a respectful and inclusive way, as my daughter is non-verbal. She is accommodating in many ways. Highly recommend.”
